Women's Health Overview
Conventional healthcare has LIMITED OPTIONS for Women.
Womens Health Center Defy Medical 02
Defy Medical gives women access to the care they need, and specializes in treatments for their most common conditions.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), women's experience of health and disease differ from those of men, due to unique biological, social and behavioral conditions. Biological differences vary all the way from phenotype to the cellular, making a woman’s risks for ill health different from that for a man. Women and men differ in chromosomal makeup, protein gene products, genomic imprinting, gene expression, signaling pathways and hormonal environment.

Though women have a longer life expectancy and are 24% more likely to have visited a doctor within the past year (from Springbuk’s Health Intelligence platform), the care they receive is still not equal in quality to that of their male counterparts. Part of this is due to an imbalance in provider leadership. The Guardian reports that only 22% of executives and board members of Fortune 500 healthcare companies are women and only 1/3 of hospital executives are women, while General Medical Council data shows that despite female general practitioners outnumbering males (52% vs. 48%), the large majority of specialists (66%) are male.

A gender inequity in research directly affects women’s health. The book Doing Harm points out that diseases that disproportionately affect women, from autoimmune diseases and fibromyalgia to many chronic pain conditions, have been under-researched, so doctors do not have the knowledge sufficient for diagnosis and treatment. Studies cited in The Girl Who Cried Pain showed that women are more likely to be given sedatives for pain, while men are prescribed pain medication.

Committed to solving the common problems faced by women.

Women’s health is a specialty. Defy Medical specializes in women’s health problems. In addition to gender inequities, there are issues that impact women more dramatically and at an earlier age. And of course, there are conditions suffered only by women. Many of these common issues affecting women relate to hormone imbalance and sexual dysfunction.

Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) is a prevalent problem, afflicting approximately 43% of women, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. More frequent with age, this progressive and widespread condition is associated with symptoms such as diminished vaginal lubrication, pain and discomfort upon intercourse, decreased sense of arousal and difficulty in achieving orgasm, as explained by the British Journal of Urology.

Yet only a small percentage of women seek medical attention for FSD. This can perhaps be partly attributable to the comparative lack of emphasis by standard medical practitioners. Significantly less research and treatment is available compared to that for Erectile Dysfunction in males. Furthermore, Female Sexual Dysfunction is more complicated and substantially less understood in comparison to male sexual dysfunction.

Defy the bias and defy the world of ordinary standards of care for women.

Addressing women’s healthcare in a different way from typical practitioners allows Defy Medical to defy the impact of the true underlying causes of important health issues. For instance, low levels of testosterone are associated with a decline in libido, arousal, genital sensation and orgasm. As with other women’s health problems, the symptoms of low testosterone in women are often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed (mistaken for stress, depression and side effects of menopausal changes), according to Healthline.

Are you experiencing any of these sexual health symptoms? Do you notice that you are more fatigued and have increased body fat? The women’s health experts at Defy Medical are ready to help you with these and other common problems women face.

Defy Medical is an affordable clinic dedicated to women’s health, differentiating itself by providing comprehensive treatment of common women’s health issues. The practice is at the forefront of women’s health to treat a variety of complex conditions that affect women nationwide through a variety of innovative treatment programs.

The Journal of Endocrinology confirms that key endocrine hormones, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are involved in the sexual response, while an abstract by the American Society for the Study of Sterility along with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine connects androgen deficiencies with FSD. In a women’s body, one of the functions of androgens is to be converted into the female hormones called estrogens, with this deficiency one of the more common hormonal disorders in women that’s associated with low libido, fatigue and decreased sense of well-being, as well as bone loss and osteoporosis susceptibility. These hormonal imbalances are not only problems experienced by older females, as levels begin dropping in a woman’s 20s and can decline as much as 50% at the time of reaching menopause.

As leading hormone replacement specialists for nearly a decade, Defy Medical diagnoses and treats many women’s health problems with hormone replacement therapy and other advanced protocols such as testosterone replacement therapy, thyroid replacement therapy and peptide therapy.

Current FDA-approved options indicated for sexual dysfunction in women are limited and only effective in certain cases. In fact, as of 2019 there is no FDA-approved testosterone product for women, yet for a long time women’s health physicians have maintained access to a variety of sexual health and testosterone options by using a local compounding pharmacy. Compounding plays an important role in women’s healthcare partly because it enables practitioners to prescribe customized medications that are not available at retail pharmacies, providing unlimited treatment options and allowing for personalized integrative care that is often needed to achieve a successful outcome.

Defy Medical has aligned with Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) pharmacies and an FDA-registered pharmaceutical outsourcing facility to deliver access to a full catalog of affordable medications used to treat Female Sexual Dysfunction. Defy Medical offers women's health product lines which include compounded medication for hormone replacement therapy, sexual dysfunction and general health.

You can also defy high costs experienced elsewhere with Defy’s innovative self-pay cash option.

One reason women (and men) avoid healthcare is because they are intimidated by the costs they typically expect for the care and for health insurance. That’s why Defy Medical is defying the ordinary way too many providers build this barrier to care. Instead, Defy has driven costs down AND has made access easier with alternative payment methods.

By establishing partnerships with key vendors, including pharmaceutical manufacturers and diagnostic laboratories, Defy Medical can offer affordable cash pay services that may often cost the patient less than when using a third-party payor for similar services. The self-pay cash model allows the clinic to offer affordable access to women’s health services with more time allowed for quality patient care.
